Lot description:

PHOENICIA. Tyre. Year 114 (13/12 BC). AR Tetradrachm (Shekel) (14.43 gm). Laureate head of Melkart right / Eagle standing left on prow; date and club to left, KP and monogram right, Phoenician "b" between legs. BMC Phoenicia 189; RPC 4644. Toned good VF. ($300) It is noted that later Tyrian shekels are frequently struck from worn, overused dies, sometimes to the point of illegibility. Here, worn dies were refurbished, with details of hair, laurel wreath and feathers re-engraved to prolong the life of the dies.
